Civil Engineering

Our civil engineering division takes on grading and infrastructure associated with our own architectural projects, and they also undertake roadway and public improvement projects for municipalities, land use planning, mapping and subdivision projects for developers, ALTA, boundary and utility surveys, parking lot, drainage, grading and stormwater and infrastructure designs for other architectural and engineering firms.

Surveys

The civil group also can arrange for site boundary and topographic surveys of sites as small as a residential parcel and as large as a marina or an industrial park. We provide base maps for master land use planning, and we have recently undertaken the schematic design of a “Living Machine” in the City of Los Angeles that is designed to be shared by an independent school and a small private college.

On-Site Treatment

In addition, the architecture division has designed an interpretive center that will serve as a teaching tool for students and for the public, detailing the benefits of on-site treatment and explaining the various pumps and the wetland plants selected to remove and digest toxins and sludge.

Infrastructure Design

The civil engineering group has provided infrastructure design for large landholders including Rolling Hills Preparatory School, Volunteers of America, LA Unified, Hawthorne and Lenox School Districts, and Watson Land Company.

Saving costs

The design actually uses bioswales, retention tanks and created wetlands to “treat” sewage onsite the secondary levels, suitable for irrigation and other non-potable uses. This design saves the institutions hundreds of thousands of dollars over the cost of bringing adequately sized sewer lines from existing streets to the remote hilltop site and the schools will never pay connection fees or sewer charges.
